Be Centered – Day Two

Welcome to Day 2 of Be Centered!

How did yesterday go for you? Did you do your homework? Were you more cognizant of your needs throughout the day?
Good! <3 Even just bringing awareness to this topic can begin to shift things and unearth some of your power!

Today’s topic is going to continue that process of unearthing with Permission to do Nothing.

How is doing nothing helping us to find our power in the storm? Good question! It seems kind of contradictory right – that by doing nothing, we are doing something? So, let me explain.

Many of us live in societies that put pressure on us to “do.” You may remember that when people were first being asked to stay home in response to COVID-19, that there were messages going around about having the time to start a new hobby, to exercise, to hop on 20-million Zoom calls each day, to clean everything, etc. It’s like that. It’s the pressure to be doing something during every “free” moment of your day. It’s the pressure to produce outcomes and products, especially for profit.

Permission to do Nothing pushes back against this narrative.

We aren’t meant to be “doing” all of the time. We need rest. (Remember, fill your needs.) But we also need time to just be – away from the pressure of performance, production, and profits.

Further –

  • doing all of the time also tends to disconnect us from our bodies.
  • the pressures of performance, production, and profits puts our worth in these things, rather than recognizing the inherent-ness of our worth.
  • the pressures also create feelings of anxiety, depression, and general antsy-ness when we are unable to do things (such as being asked to stay at home to flatten the curve)
  • and our power is attributed to other things other than innately already being within us.

Why do you think binging Netflix series is such a common thing? Because it disconnects us from feeling the pressure to “do.” And it feels like we have an excuse to not be productive or to perform.

 

So today, I am asking you to take some time and do nothing.

Sit on your porch and just watch the world. Take a nap on the couch. Lay in your yard and watch the clouds. Watch your pets zoom in and out of the room. Heck, stare at the wall! Allow yourself to just be today.

Tomorrow, we’ll get into the next topic – which I am purposely not introducing because I want you to just be today and not get distracted by trying to dive into the next topic ahead of time.
